Guiding Techniques and Mobility Skills Training - 2023

On 4th and 5th March, 2023, Chain For Change in collaboration with Expedición Solidaria successfully conducted 3rd season of 'Guiding Techniques and Mobility Skills Training - 2023'. In the training, representative members of Expedición Solidaria Dr. Cristina Gomez Vicente and Dr. Guillermo Rodriguez Cortes distributed white canes as a mobility aid to participants with visual disabilities.

On the first day of the training, 15 persons with visual disabilities and their guides learn correct mobility skills using their rolling white canes in out/in-door settings, safely navigate without using white canes, proper guiding techniques and disable friendlier approaches and behaviors at Laboratory Secondary School, Kirtipur, Kathmandu. Next day, a group of 44 including 17 persons with visual disabilities, their guides, teachers from Laboratory Secondary School, parents/guardians, camera crew and CFC members hiked to Nagigumba at Shivapuri-Nagarjung National Park.

Fr. Jiju Varghese, S.J - Superior and Director of International Relation of St. Xavier's College, Maitighar, Kathmandu also blessed the hikers with his graceful presence. After the hike, participants were awarded with certificates. Ms. Jeena Maharjan and Mr. Pradip Chaudhary captured all the happenings of the event through their camera.

Guiding Techniques and Mobility Skills Training - 2022

Guiding Techniques & Mobility Skills Training was successfully conducted on 13th - 15th August, 2022 for 12 persons with visual disabilities and their guides at Laboratory Secondary School, Kirtipur, Kathmandu. This is the second edition of this project after 2019 where the participants with and without visual disabilities learn correct mobility skills using their rolling white canes in out/in-door settings, safely navigate without using white canes, proper guiding techniques and disable friendlier approaches and behaviors.

36 Participants with and without visual disabilities also got chance to hike to Sundarijal at Shivapuri-Nagarjung National Park on 14th August, 2022 after receiving a day long training on 13th August, 2022. On 15th August, the closing ceremony was held at the hall of Laboratory Secondary School. Participants with visual disabilities also received rolling white canes as a mobility aid during the session. Mr. Shaan Baidya, Mr. Abiral Manandhar and Mr. Praphulla Lal Shrestha clicked the pictures of 3 days event and Ms. Subi Blon filmed the all the happenings.

Guiding Techniques and Mobility Skills Training - 2019

  • In this image, the Founder & director of CFC Mr. Abhishek Shahi and Co-founder and Treasurer Ms. Sanjiya Shrestha are showing and explaining fellow trainees how to use their white canes correctly on the stage. Trainees with visual disability are being guided by their pairs in learning, understanding and following the steps being demonstrated to them. There is a sofa and chair placed above the stage and a banner of Chain For Change is also hanged on the wall.
  • Participants with visual disabilities are receiving guidance in learning about the mobility techniques from their pairs.
This project entitled 'Guiding Techniques and Mobility Skills for Persons with Visual disabilities' was three days training package for both persons with and without visual disabilities of Nepal. There was proportionate participation of 9 trainees with visual disability and 9 trainees with good vision. Though the project name only include persons with visual disabilities but, it was also focused for persons who had correct eye vision and willingness to guide persons with visual impairment.

Ms. Sharmila Khadgi acted as an main trainer and other board members of 'Chain For Change' assisted her during the course. The two days training was held in 'Paropakar Adarsha High School', Bhimsinsthan, Kathmandu on 30th October and 31st October, 2019. During these days, correct mobility skills in both in-door and out-door for persons with visual disabilities and proper guiding techniques for persons assisting visual disabilities were trained for in-door and out-door setting. On 2nd November, hiking to Shivapuri-Nagarjung National Park was done as to implement theoretical learning to practical setting for 35 people. Participants were also provided with whitecanes during the hike for smooth navigation. These entire event were being captured and documented by the camera crew of Mr. Gagan Thapa who were assigned to prepare a documentary and snap the pictures of the happenings.

Awareness on Blindness and Their Mobility with Whitecane Distribution

On 21st March, 2018 - Wednesday, Chain For Change organized an event regarding the awareness of blindness and the prospect of mobility of persons with visual disabilities in Nepal at its own office. The trainees from BASW - Department of Social Work, St. Xavier's College, Maitighar, Kathmandu had presented about the scenario of blindness in Nepal and demonstrated a short drama to display proper guiding techniques to persons with visual disabilities. The at hand participants with visual disabilities received white canes as their mobility aid.
