In April, 2025, we conducted our 4th Season of our signature project "Guiding Techniques and Mobility Skills training and Inclusive Hiking". On 23rd and 24th April, 2025, we conducted 2-days training for students with visual disabilities of Laboratory Secondary School and the project interns and on 26th April, 2025, we took a group of 42 members for inclusive hike to Nagi Gompa, Shivapuri National Park.

During the 2 days of training, 9 students with visual disabilities and a teacher with visual disability participated to learn mobility skills design to be used in their daily lives and hiking whereas 16 project interns who participated learned different guiding techniques to support their pair with visual disabilities.

There were 3 Spanish specialized Trainor where Mr. Alfonso Xosé González Cabarcos taught participants to use Spanish techniques of guiding persons with visual disabilities in the hiking and trekking route using a long sticks. Similarly, Mrs. Kety Balibrea Melero and Mrs. Nuria Caus Pertegaz facilitated the participants with spatial orientation of using the map and other sporting techniques like rope to support persons with visual disabilities during hiking and trekking. Four of the Spanish students also assisted them during the course.

The Executives of CFC Mr. Abhishek Shahi and Ms. Deepika Shahi also taught the participants with visual disabilities to use the white cane for mobility in hiking and during daily life. They also taught the project interns to guide their pairs with visual disabilities in friendly and safe manner.

On 26th April, 2025, 12 individuals with visual disabilities, their pairs, trainers, representatives from partner organization and CFC members went for an inclusive hike to Nagi Gompa, Shivapuri National Park. The group started to hike from Shivapuri National Park, Budhanilkantha Check Post to Bhagdwar where a beautiful waterfall can be seen. The special part about Bhagdwar is that it resembles as if water is falling from a tiger face stone spout from which holy river Bagmati originates.

During the hiking route, they applied different guiding techniques to support persons with visual disabilities like using ropes, trekking sticks, white canes and corporal support. They walked and climb rocks and hills on the way and seek for possibilities to bring children with visual disabilities in this path.

On the way, the team found few setbacks which made them consider to choose other easier alternatives trail for hiking. First, there was a landslide in between a course, which was risky to take children with visual disabilities. Second, climbing rocks to Bhagdwar is quite challenging for younger and unexperienced children with visual disabilities. The third and final reason was that the waterfall at Bhagdwar dried up. Thus, the hiking got concluded reaching to Danda gaun.

On 4th April, 2025, members of Chain For Change along with Mr. Alfonso Xosé González Cabarcos and four of his students from Consorcio EWE, went to Chandragiri hills to assess the accessibility of the route for conducting inclusive hiking for individuals with visual disabilities.

Chandragiri is located 16Km south west of central Kathmandu valley at an altitude of 2551 meters and is one of the four hills that surround the valley. Not just the bird's eye view of the valley, one can also observe stunning mountain sight of The Himalayan range along with green forest and Bhaleshwor Mahadev temple at the top, because of which, it is getting wide popularity. People have option to use the cable car and reach to the top too.

Our team started this hike from Cable car base which was apparently the shortest route. Walking for around an hour, we observed that there was no clear signboards to indicate the hikers about the trail. Even after a lot of attempts, we could not find a proper path to get us to the hill top. We found that it was sparsely used and locals did not pay much attention in conserving the course. As we sensed that the path was inaccessible for our inclusive hiking event, we took the cable car and reach to the top.
