Project Wings to Dreams 2023-2024

    Resource Centre for Accessible Facilities

An initiation by Chain For Change - CFC in collaboration with Expedición Solidaria, Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain and St. Xavier's College, Maitighar, Kathmandu under the project "Wings to Dreams". Establishing Resource Centre for Accessible Facilities and integrating it in education system is CFC's mega project to overcome the graphical challenges faced by persons with visual disabilities. There are subjects in curriculum having diagram and graphical content which are understood only through visual cues or perception. This causes more than 90% of the published materials in the world inaccessible to persons with visual disabilities states World Blind Union. This is why, we need your attention and support in any way possible. Chain For Change has received the 3D printer with the support from Expedición Solidaria and has inaugurated the Resource Centre for Accessible Facilities at St. Xavier's College, Maitighar, Kathmandu on 17th March, 2023. A dedicated course has alre

Workshop of the Solar System, Constellations, Parts of a Leaf, Nucleus of the Cell, and The Neuron - 2025

On March 3, 2025, a workshop was conducted at Laboratory School under the Project Wings to Dreams, Kirtipur, to help students with visual disabilities learn 5 different concept through 3D models of the Solar System, Constellations, Parts of a Leaf, Nucleus of the Cell, and The Neuron. The students were guided on how to use the 3D models, learn from them, and explore additional information using the CFC app. To measure the effectiveness of the 3D models, students took a pre-test before interacting with the models and a post-test after engaging with them. The results showed a significant improvement in their understanding of the topics. The interactive nature of the models helped them grasp abstract concepts more easily. Students found the Solar System model useful but suggested adding Pluto and making the Sun a full sphere. Their learning improved by 23.33%. For Constellations, they wanted bigger models for better understanding, and their learning increased by 66.67%. In the Nucleus

Project Presentation of Wings to Dreams to the Representative of UPV - 2025

On 27th February, 2025, project members of 2024/25 presented their group and individual presentation to Mrs. Ana Galiano Mainer who is working as the Study abroad and International Agreements Coordinator at International Affairs Office - Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain. At first, project members Supreme Khadka, Garima Shakya, Bhumika Shrestha, Sanskriti Ghimire Khatri and Smriti Panta jointly presented about the project and their journey so far. They explained how the project started, their engagements, and their experiences. Later, 16 project members from computer and non-computer team presented about their individual project. Each of them took their turn and explained about the 3D models that they design, the process of developing them and challenges that they were facing. They also highlighted how significant were the roles of international interns from UPV to learn 3D designing software and using the 3D printers.

Blindfold Test of 3D Models; the Solar System & the Neuron - 2025

On February 24, 2025, members of "Project Wings to Dreams" conducted a blindfold test to check the design and accessibility of 3D tactile models for students with visual disabilities. A member of the computer team participated in the test, and observations were recorded to improve the models. The session focused on two models: the Solar System and the Neuron Structure. The "Solar System" model represents the sun, planets, and other celestial bodies. The blindfolded participant did not struggle with orientation because of previous experience with similar models. However, some challenges were noted. The model was too large, making it difficult to locate Mercury and the Sun. The distance between Uranus and Mercury on the index side was too wide, causing confusion. The asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter was also hard to recognize. Feedback suggested improving the Earth's texture and adjusting Braille labels for better navigation. The "Neuron Structure" model shows the different par

Blindfold Test of 3D Models; Parts of Leaf, Nucleus of Cell & Constellation - 2025

On January 20, 2025, a Blindfold test was administered by the members of "Project Wings to Dreams" to assess the design of tactile 3D models made for students with visual disabilities. The blindfold testing was carried out by three of the non-computer team from BA department, where participants were guided to evaluate models of Parts of Leaf, Nucleus of Cell & Constellation. This session not only highlighted the accessibility of these models but also provided valuable feedback to enhance their design. From difficulties in distinguishing textures to challenges in navigating Braille labeling, the findings revealed areas for improvement, making the models even more user-friendly and effective. The "Nucleus of the Cell" model, designed to educate about the nucleus's importance as the cell's core, was well-received but required adjustments. For example, participants faced challenges with the uneven surfaces and similar textures of the nuclear membrane and nucleoplasm. Meanwhile, the "

“This day is a day of celebration and also a moment of pride for our St. Xavier's College. It is a signal or sign that make our education and platform more inclusive. Even more our moto of guiding students to be the leaders of the society and 3 great individuals who started CFC is our students who went on to be leaders for a community and a segment of people in the country for whom they would make a difference. They came up with this 3D project. I had no clue what it was. I eventually figured it out now. We got started the project in the college and I would like to thank Abhishek, Sanjiya and also Joon for tirelessly working for this. And, I want to tell you that we are so proud of you.

        Thank You!”

“Universitat Politècnica de València is excited to collaborate in 3D printing project because it is a perfect tool to provide materials to blind students and their problems. The students of St. Xavier's College are going to design and provide 3D models that would be useful to different students from different schools. In the future, we hope that students from UPV can come here to collaborate with the students of St. Xavier'. Today Guillermo and I am very happy to be here in the beginning of this beautiful project and I hope this collaboration last for a long time.

        Thank You!”
