Assessment of Accessible Inclusive Hike to Chandragiri Hills - 2025

On 4th April, 2025, members of Chain For Change along with Mr. Alfonso Xosé González Cabarcos and four of his students from Consorcio EWE, went to Chandragiri hills to assess the accessibility of the route for conducting inclusive hiking for individuals with visual disabilities.

Chandragiri is located 16Km south west of central Kathmandu valley at an altitude of 2551 meters and is one of the four hills that surround the valley. Not just the bird's eye view of the valley, one can also observe stunning mountain sight of The Himalayan range along with green forest and Bhaleshwor Mahadev temple at the top, because of which, it is getting wide popularity. People have option to use the cable car and reach to the top too.

Our team started this hike from Cable car base which was apparently the shortest route. Walking for around an hour, we observed that there was no clear signboards to indicate the hikers about the trail. Even after a lot of attempts, we could not find a proper path to get us to the hill top. We found that it was sparsely used and locals did not pay much attention in conserving the course. As we sensed that the path was inaccessible for our inclusive hiking event, we took the cable car and reach to the top.
