Overview

  • Every planet and natural satellites revolve around the Sun. Furthermore, natural satellites revolve around specific planetary bodies in the solar system. Moon is the most prominently known natural satellite. The moon is the only natural satellite of the planet Earth. Moon successfully orbits the Earth at 29.5 days. As the moon orbits around the Earth, different portions of the moon can be seen. The moon's sunlit part is seen and the rest is not. These differing portions of the moon which are visible are the ‘phases of the moon’.

Walkthrough

  • 1. Start exploring the model from the top-left corner. You will find the title of the model written in braille which is ‘Phases of the Moon’.
  • 2. Just below the title of the model, you find another braille labelling written as ‘Start’. The moon just below the ‘Start’ is the first phase of the moon.
  • 3. All phases of the moon have different potions of differing textures. The black paper feel indicates the invisible portion of the moon whereas the rougher and grittier texture indicates the portion of the moon which is visible.
  • 4. Each phase of the moon has its name written in braille present just beneath the moons.
  • 5. The alignment of the phases of the moon is in a clockwise direction i.e., investigating the different phases of the moon from left to right until you’ve arrived at the end of the model. Then move your hand downwards and then start moving right to left until you arrive at the other end of the model. There are 8 phases of the moon in total in the model.
